45th Annual 4th of July Picnic in the Park

Cambria’s most beloved Independence Day tradition returns for its 45th year, and this one lands on a milestone: the 250th anniversary of the country.

Hosted by American Legion Post 432, the 4th of July Picnic in the Park is a full day of old-fashioned community celebration at Shamel Park, and it consistently draws thousands of locals and visitors.

The day kicks off with the Opening Ceremony at 11:00 AM at the flagpole, followed by the games, food, and music the event is known for. Traditional favorites include the waiter and waitress races, a pie eating contest, face painting, children’s games, and a bounce house provided by the Cambria Lion’s Club. Food will be available from American Legion Post 432, Cambria Rotary, and Linn’s Restaurant, and live music keeps the afternoon going. With the beach right there at Shamel Park, there’s plenty of room to hunt moonstones and put your toes in the sand between activities.

This is the kind of hometown Fourth of July that’s getting harder to find. The event runs until 5:00 PM, which leaves plenty of time to head out and catch one of the area’s community fireworks displays afterward. A few friendly notes from the organizers: please leave grills at home for community safety, and keep all animals leashed.

Bring a blanket, bring the family, and settle in for the day. It’s a Cambria classic for good reason.
