July in Cambria: Live Music, the 250th, and a Full Summer Calendar
July is the busiest month on the Cambria calendar, and 2026 has more reason than most. The country turns 250 this Independence Day, the town’s marquee tradition returns for its 45th year, and the live music runs nearly every night of the week somewhere in town. If you live here, this is the month to play tourist in your own backyard. If you are visiting, you picked the right time, as long as you book lodging early, because everyone else picked it too.
Here is the month, sorted. Big anchors first, then the steady rhythm of live music, then the quieter things worth your time.

The Big One: 4th of July at Shamel Park
Cambria’s Fourth happens at Shamel Park, where the 45th Annual Picnic in the Park runs Saturday, July 4, from 11 am to 5 pm. Opening ceremony at the flagpole at 11, then a full afternoon of the pie-eating contest, waiter and waitress races, live music, a bounce house, kids’ crafts, face painting, a raffle, and food off the grill. Admission is free this year, and with the 250th anniversary drawing a bigger crowd than usual, getting there early and carpooling both pay off.
One thing to plan around: there are no fireworks at the park this year, and the day is built to wrap by 5 so you can travel to a nearby show if that is part of your tradition.
We wrote a full guide to the day, with parking, the trolley, what to bring, and how to support the Legion that puts it on. You can read it here.
Marking the 250th
The Fourth is not the only place the semiquincentennial shows up this month.
Land That I Love: A 250th Celebration brings the community to First Baptist Church of Cambria on Sunday, July 5 at 10 am, for a family-friendly, patriotic program surveying 250 years of America’s most loved church music, from a cappella through strings, organ, piano, and a full band. It opens with the posting of the colors and the national anthem, runs about an hour, and singing along is encouraged. Free, with a nursery available.
Even the knitters are in on it. Sip & Stitch at Ball & Skein on Wednesday, July 1 from 4 to 6 pm invited the West Village’s makers to celebrate the 250th a few days early, project in hand, with teas, wines, and a few snacks. Free, no sign-up, and it runs the first Wednesday of every month if you miss this one.
Live Music, Most Nights of the Week
The heart of a Cambria summer is the music, and in July, it is constant. Rather than list every set, here is where to point yourself; the calendar carries the night-by-night details.
In town:
- The Fireside Lounge at Cambria Pines Lodge runs the most live music of anyone, weeknights and weekends both, always free (artists do accept tips, so bring cash). The reliable default when you just want a night out with music.
- Robin’s Restaurant hosts an evening series in its garden, with a rotating lineup through the month: Dave Tate, the Rockin’ B’s Trio, Miss Leo, and Brynn Albanese among them. Modest cover.
- The Optimyst brings live music to the East Village wine and beer room, like Lynda Tymchek and Shane Perry, early in the month.
- Mozzi’s Saloon leans later and livelier, with the Dani Cole Trio and the Moonstone Band on the bill.
- Moonstone Cellars runs its Melodies for Moonstoners afternoon series on Sundays, an easy daytime listen with a glass of estate wine.
North Coast:
- Harmony Cellars hosts a strong Friday North Coast music series all month (DV8, Rolf & The Chaos, Unfinished Business, Push, the Joy Bonner Band).
- Ragged Point Inn runs near-daily summer concerts at the southern gateway, free, and a genuine reason to make the drive up Highway 1.
For who is playing when, the events calendar has the full schedule, updated as shows are added.

Beyond the Music: Standout July Events
Comedy Night at Moonstone Cellars
Saturday, July 11. Moonstone Cellars turns its Cornwall Street lounge over to stand-up, with two seatings at 6 and 8 pm and the tasting room pouring throughout. Tickets are $25, or $20 for members, and the room is small, so book ahead. A fun change of pace from a music night, and the kind of intimate space where comedy actually lands.
Squibb Houses Variety Show
Friday, July 17 at 6 pm. The Squibb House Players return for an evening of singing, comedy, and homegrown entertainment at the historic Squibb House on Burton Drive. The $25 admission includes wine and cheese, and the night doubles as a fundraiser for several local causes, Cambria Connection and DreamQuest among them. It fills up, so reserve ahead.
Cambria Historical Society Speaker Series: Let the School Bells Ring
Friday, July 3 at 5 pm. Author Debbie Soto traces the history of schooling in Cambria at the Historic Santa Rosa School House, a fitting venue, since it was a working schoolhouse itself. A wine bar and refreshments round out the evening. Free for Historical Society members, $20 otherwise.
Neptune Pool Swim at Hearst Castle (North Coast)
Saturday, July 25. One of the rarest experiences on the coast: an after-hours swim in the legendary Neptune Pool at Hearst Castle, a Foundation fundraiser limited to a small group. The 104-foot, Vermont-marble pool once hosted Hollywood icons, and the evening includes scenic transport up the Enchanted Hill. It is a serious splurge at $1000, and the proceeds support the Hearst Castle Preservation Foundation. If a once-in-a-lifetime night is on your list, this is one.

Get Outside This July
Cambria’s summer is as much about the trails and bluffs as it is about the events.
Summer Sea Scenes Walk at Fiscalini Ranch Preserve on Monday, July 6 at 10 am is a free, docent-led nature walk with Duffy Burns, exploring the season’s coastal views and ocean life along one of the town’s most loved open spaces. Registration is required and the meeting spot is sent to those who sign up. Children are welcome with an adult. Note for dog owners: no dogs on this one, and rain cancels.
Piedras Blancas Hike-In Open House (North Coast) on Wednesday, July 8 from 10 am to 2 pm opens the historic light station for a self-paced morning on the bluffs. Pack a picnic, wander the grounds, and talk with docents about the lighthouse and the local ecology. Important: this is a hike-in event, so do not drive to the station. Start at the elephant seal viewpoint and walk in.
Plan Your July Weekend
The pattern for a good Cambria July day holds all month. A morning on the Moonstone boardwalk or the Fiscalini bluffs before the fog lifts, an afternoon built around one of the anchors above, dinner on a garden patio, and live music to close the night. The Fourth is the obvious centerpiece, but any weekend in July rewards showing up.
For everything happening around town, night by night, the full slate is on the HelloCambria events calendar.
