Author and ocean advocate David Helvarg comes to Cambria for the Greenspace Speaker Series, with a talk on the hidden world of kelp forests and the fight to save them.
Helvarg, author of seven books and executive director of the ocean policy group Blue Frontier, will speak about his new book, Forest of the Sea: The Remarkable Life and Imperiled Future of Kelp. An award-winning journalist, he co-hosts the Rising Tide Ocean Podcast, edits the Ocean and Coastal Conservation Guide, and co-founded the Peter Benchley Ocean Awards. He is also a licensed private investigator, body surfer, and scuba diver.
His book is a vivid reminder that this underwater world of color and life is at grave risk, and that ordinary people working together to restore and protect kelp forests offer real hope for the future of our oceans. It is a fitting subject for a community as tied to its coastline as Cambria.
A $10 donation per person is suggested to support the Greenspace Speaker Series. To reserve your spot, email [email protected] or call the office at 805.927.2866.
