The Cambria Scarecrow Festival is one of the Central Coast’s most recognizable and beloved annual traditions, transforming the streets of Cambria and nearby San Simeon each October into an open-air gallery of creativity, humor, and community spirit.
Each fall, hundreds of handcrafted scarecrows line Main Street and surrounding areas, ranging from whimsical and lighthearted to detailed, artistic installations inspired by pop culture, history, and local life. What began as a small community effort has grown into a month-long experience that draws visitors from across California and beyond.
The festival is entirely community-driven, powered by volunteers, local businesses, and residents who design, build, and install each scarecrow. Behind the scenes, a dedicated team works year-round to coordinate logistics, support participants, and ensure the event continues to evolve while staying true to its local roots.
In addition to the October displays, the organization hosts seasonal events, workshops, and informational gatherings throughout the year, inviting both locals and visitors to get involved and contribute to the next season.
The Cambria Scarecrow Festival reflects the creativity, collaboration, and character of the town itself. It’s not just something to see, it’s something the community builds together.
