DESCRIPTION:Cambria’s most beloved Independence Day tradition returns for its 45th year\, and this one lands on a milestone: the 250th anniversary of the country.\nHosted by American Legion Post 432\, the 4th of July Picnic in the Park is a full day of old-fashioned community celebration at Shamel Park\, and it consistently draws thousands of locals and visitors. \nThe day kicks off with the Opening Ceremony at 11:00 AM at the flagpole\, followed by the games\, food\, and music the event is known for. Traditional favorites include the waiter and waitress races\, a pie eating contest\, face painting\, children’s games\, and a bounce house provided by the Cambria Lion’s Club. Food will be available from American Legion Post 432\, Cambria Rotary\, and Linn’s Restaurant\, and live music keeps the afternoon going. With the beach right there at Shamel Park\, there’s plenty of room to hunt moonstones and put your toes in the sand between activities. \nThis is the kind of hometown Fourth of July that’s getting harder to find. The event runs until 5:00 PM\, which leaves plenty of time to head out and catch one of the area’s community fireworks displays afterward. A few friendly notes from the organizers: please leave grills at home for community safety\, and keep all animals leashed. \nBring a blanket\, bring the family\, and settle in for the day. DESCRIPTION:Cambria Center for the Arts opens “It’s the Journey\,” a two-month exhibition featuring painter\, animator\, and filmmaker George Scribner.\nThe show runs from Tuesday\, June 30 through Sunday\, August 30. \nScribner’s work is known for its rich use of color and careful attention to shadow and light. His oil paintings capture moments in time\, with subject matter ranging from evocative street scenes to picturesque landscapes. The show’s title reflects Scribner’s belief that the road to excellence is a journey\, with meaningful pauses along the way. Local artists are also invited to contribute works that follow the broad theme of journey\, however they choose to interpret it. \nGallery hours run Tuesday through Sunday\, noon to 4 PM.
