SUMMARY:Invasive Plants of Fiscalini Ranch Preserve Nature Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join a unique guided walk at the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve to explore the hidden work that helps protect one of Cambria’s most treasured natural spaces.\nThis special docent-led walk replaces the originally scheduled May 16 outing and offers a behind-the-scenes look at how volunteers help manage invasive plant species across the Ranch. Led by docent Michael Thomas\, participants will spend approximately two hours\, mostly off trail\, learning about the invasive plants found on the preserve\, where they come from\, how they are removed\, and how restoration efforts are prioritized week to week. \nWhile the Ranch is known for its beautiful native landscapes and spring wildflowers\, it takes more than 1\,000 volunteer hours each year to maintain these conditions. This walk offers a deeper understanding of that effort while giving participants a more hands-on connection to the land. \nWear comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for off-trail walking. Children are welcome with adult supervision. Please note that dogs are not permitted\, there are no restroom facilities on site\, and rain will cancel the event. \nFor registration and additional details\, visit the official event page. \nExplore more local outdoor experiences on the HelloCambria events calendar\, or discover more ways to enjoy the area in our Cambria guide.

SUMMARY:North Coast: Meet the Scientists at Piedras Blancas Light Station
DESCRIPTION:Once a year\, Piedras Blancas Light Station opens its gates for a morning that feels closer to a working research field day than a typical lecture series.\nMeet the Scientists brings the public face to face with the marine biologists\, ecologists\, and conservation specialists who study this stretch of the Central Coast year round. \nThe 2026 lineup features the NOAA gray whale survey team\, a speaker from the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary\, and a representative from the Central California Marine Animal Response Team sharing the latest research on marine mammal diseases along the Central Coast. The setting alone is worth the trip. Piedras Blancas sits on a rugged\, windswept point about six miles north of Hearst Castle\, surrounded by the California Coastal National Monument and home to elephant seals\, sea otters\, seabirds\, and migrating whales. Lunch is served after the talks. \nThis is a great morning for naturalists\, families with curious kids\, and anyone who has ever stopped at the elephant seal vista and wondered what the scientists down the coast are actually working on. Reservations are required and space tends to fill quickly. To register\, visit piedrasblancas.org/events or follow the registration link from the Piedras Blancas Light Station Instagram post. \nIf you are planning a coastal day\, there is plenty more along the North Coast worth your time. The full HelloCambria event calendar is the easy way to see what else is happening.

DESCRIPTION:Hike in to the Piedras Blancas Light Station for an open house on the bluffs\, where an easy coastal trail leads to one of the most striking spots on the North Coast.\nPack a picnic and spend the late morning wandering the lighthouse grounds between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Docents and staff are on hand to answer questions about the light station’s history and the local ecology\, and the gift shop is open. Directions and a map are at piedrasblancas.org. \nEntry is free\, with a suggested donation of $5 per person to support restoration and maintenance. Please note: no pets\, no smoking\, no bicycles\, no drones\, and stay on the trail. \nHeading up the coast this summer? See what else is happening on the HelloCambria events calendar.

SUMMARY:North Coast: Elephant Seal Rookery Junior Ranger Program
DESCRIPTION:Kids can earn a California State Park Junior Ranger badge right at the edge of one of the most remarkable wildlife spectacles on the Central Coast.\nEvery Tuesday through the summer\, State Park interpreters set up at the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery in Hearst San Simeon State Park with a hands-on craft or activity\, and families are welcome to drop in anytime between 10:30 and 11:30 AM. \nThe program runs at the State Park table at the southern end of the Elephant Seal Rookery parking lot. It’s free\, parking is free\, and it’s geared for ages 7 to 12\, though the rookery itself is a draw for all ages. While you’re there\, the boardwalk overlooks hundreds of elephant seals hauled out on the beach\, so it’s easy to pair the Junior Ranger activity with some of the best wildlife viewing the coast has to offer. All children must be accompanied by an adult. \nThis is a wonderful\, low-key way to spend a Tuesday morning up the North Coast with the family. No registration needed\, just show up. \nHeading up the coast this summer?
