SUMMARY:Docent Walk: Walking the Trail of Time — A Geologic Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join a geology professor emeritus for an engaging docent-led walk exploring the geologic story of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve. \nThis guided experience takes participants along the preserve’s scenic coastal trails while uncovering the fascinating geological forces that shaped Cambria’s rugged coastline. From ancient marine sediments to dramatic coastal bluffs\, the landscape reveals millions of years of natural history beneath your feet. \nAlong the way\, the docent will explain how the region’s unique rock formations developed\, how erosion continues to shape the land\, and why the preserve’s geology plays such an important role in the ecosystems that thrive here today. \nThe walk includes several stops for discussion and observation and is suitable for anyone interested in nature\, science\, and the remarkable natural history of the Central Coast. \nParticipants should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water. Trails include easy to moderate terrain. \nRegister for exact starting location.

SUMMARY:Docent Walk: Lives in Darkness and Lives in Light — Forest Walk
DESCRIPTION:Discover the fascinating ecosystems of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve on this docent-led forest walk exploring life in darkness and life in sunlight. \nAs participants stroll beneath the Monterey pine canopy and through open forest clearings\, the walk highlights the unique plants and wildlife that thrive in very different environmental conditions. Some species depend on shaded\, moist forest floors\, while others flourish in bright patches of sunlight. \nThis educational walk explores how these contrasting habitats support diverse life forms and how the balance between shade and light shapes the preserve’s ecosystem. \nAlong the way\, participants may spot native plants\, birds\, and small wildlife while learning about the delicate relationships that make the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve such an important natural resource for the Cambria community. \nWear comfortable shoes suitable for natural trails and bring water for the walk. \nRegister for exact starting location.

SUMMARY:North Coast: Meet the Scientists at Piedras Blancas Light Station
DESCRIPTION:Once a year\, Piedras Blancas Light Station opens its gates for a morning that feels closer to a working research field day than a typical lecture series.\nMeet the Scientists brings the public face to face with the marine biologists\, ecologists\, and conservation specialists who study this stretch of the Central Coast year round. \nThe 2026 lineup features the NOAA gray whale survey team\, a speaker from the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary\, and a representative from the Central California Marine Animal Response Team sharing the latest research on marine mammal diseases along the Central Coast. The setting alone is worth the trip. Piedras Blancas sits on a rugged\, windswept point about six miles north of Hearst Castle\, surrounded by the California Coastal National Monument and home to elephant seals\, sea otters\, seabirds\, and migrating whales. Lunch is served after the talks. \nThis is a great morning for naturalists\, families with curious kids\, and anyone who has ever stopped at the elephant seal vista and wondered what the scientists down the coast are actually working on. Reservations are required and space tends to fill quickly. To register\, visit piedrasblancas.org/events or follow the registration link from the Piedras Blancas Light Station Instagram post. \nIf you are planning a coastal day\, there is plenty more along the North Coast worth your time. The full HelloCambria event calendar is the easy way to see what else is happening.

SUMMARY:Cambria Historical Society Speaker Series: The 1776 DeAnza Expedition Legacy
DESCRIPTION:The Cambria Historical Society opens its 2026 Speaker Series with a presentation that connects the founding of the United States to the people who shaped this stretch of the California coast long before statehood.\nAuthor and 8th generation Californian Robert Soto presents The 1776 DeAnza Expedition Legacy in California and Cambria\, a personal and historical look at the families and journeys that defined early Californian-Spanish heritage. \nThe talk arrives at a meaningful moment. As the country approaches its 250th anniversary\, Soto offers a perspective rooted in lived family history rather than textbook summary. He traces his own ancestors back through the DeAnza Expedition of 1775 and 1776\, the ranching traditions that followed\, and the Spanish and American periods of California that preceded the modern era. Soto is the author of An Old California Family: The Sotos of Cambria\, drawing on generations of firsthand stories tied directly to this region. \nHosted at the Cambria Historical Museum\, this evening includes a wine bar and gourmet refreshments. Seating is limited to 60\, so reservations are encouraged. Tickets are free for CHS members and $20 for non-members. Memberships purchased now are valid through July 1\, 2027\, and members attend speaker events at no additional cost. Tickets and memberships are available at the Museum gift shop\, open Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.\, or online at cambriahistoricalsociety.com. \nFor more lectures\, community programs\, and weekend ideas across town\, the HelloCambria event calendar is the easiest way to plan.

SUMMARY:Greenspace Speaker Series: Living Amongst Giants\, Mankind vs. Ecosystems\, Paul C. Williams
DESCRIPTION:The Greenspace Speaker Series returns with Paul C. Williams presenting Living Amongst Giants: Mankind vs. Ecosystems\, an in-depth look at how human activity intersects with the natural systems that keep urban and wild landscapes healthy. \nPaul is the owner and operator of Williams Pest Management\, a locally based company specializing in integrated pest management\, urban forest biology\, and ecosystem-focused landscape pest and disease management. With decades of hands-on field experience\, he has developed a science-based approach to managing pests\, plant diseases\, and environmental stress in urban landscapes. His work focuses on the relationships between soil health\, water management\, plant biology\, and the ecological systems that support long-term landscape stability. Paul’s expertise includes tree and plant biology with a specialization in urban forest ecosystems\, invasive species\, and vegetation management in sensitive environments. \nThis is a thoughtful\, locally relevant talk for anyone who cares about Cambria’s pine forests\, native plant communities\, and the practical realities of stewarding land in a changing climate. Baked goods and refreshments will be served. \nA $10 suggested donation per person supports the Greenspace Speaker Series.
